Gamers: The Anime Equivalent to Sipping A Drink you Love While Not Thirsty

You know how it is when you have a drink you really love in front of you but you’re not even remotely thirsty, but since you love the drink and it’s available you just sit down and contentedly sip it till you’re done.

That’s Gamers

I just started a couple of days ago and while it’s not an anime that has me hurriedly clicking on the next button on the next episode, it is an enjoyable past time.

I savour every episode of Gamers knowing that there’s probably nothing serious at stake and it’s just to be enjoyed for what it is: a ditzy romcom with fun characters that won’t be making your top ten list but for whom you’ll always remember for giving you a good time.

So, what’s it about?

Keita Amano is our protagonist and he loves video games to bits. He is your average geek: keeps to himself, is a little low on the self-esteem scale and just tries to mind his business. One day, however, he has an unexpected meeting with the cutest girl in school and this changes things.

Karen Tendou, cutest girl in school is also an exemplary student who is proclaimed to be the school’s idol. She discovers that Amano is a gamer, and this leads her to introduce him to the gaming club which he declines, but it also makes Tendou fall for him which leads to some weird, romcom-like situations.

Tendou’s interest in Amano begins shaking up what was once an uneventful life, filling it with spontaneity, awkwardness, and a little bit of mayhem. As a result, every day becomes a comical battle for Amano’s sanity as he tries to adapt to these wild, unexpected changes.

So yeah, that’s basically it. I’ve loved it so far cos i just laugh at the antics, they’re mostly cliche, but i find them heartwarming.

I’d recommend Gamers to any anime fan that’s into the random Slice of Life genre, it’ll be great watch for you, but if you’re one of those Hardcore anime people, just be going please.

Till later
