Ghengheun Recommends: Kekkaishi

Okay so it doesn’t make sense for us to just talk of why we love certain anime titles and do lists of our favourite whatever and not sometimes make recommendations on what to see.

So today i want to tout an anime to y’all.

Kekkaishi.

Kekkaishi is an action/adventure anime from 2008 that i still remember because i really, really didn’t like the protagonist. Yoshimori Sumimura was a crybaby of epic proportions and his interest in female companion Tokine was obvious and sort of lame, but he was courageous, bold, stood by his friends etc.

He also had an uber cool elder brother.

It came out in 2008 and is one of those titles i don’t see mentioned much, but it is well worth a watch.

The synopsis reads:

Yoshimura Sumimura comes from a long line of “Kekkaishi,” individuals who have supernatural abilities and are able to destroy evil creatures called Ayakashi that venture into the human realm from time to time. The Ayakashi are demons that look to feast on the power emanating from the land of Karasumori, which also happens to be where Yoshimura’s high school is located. Now, Yoshimura must fight to protect his beloved school and hometown. Although, if it were up to him, he would rather be baking cakes than fighting off the ugly characters that show up at night.

Thankfully, Yoshimura isn’t the only one helping to keep the baddies at bay. His childhood friend and neighbour, Tokine Yukimura, joins him in this righteous battle. Despite the fact that they are from rival clans, these two make a fantastic team. And teamwork is something vital to fighting the evil that is closing in, as the Ayakashi attack in waves, looking to claim the land as their own, and a shadowy organization looks on, ready to pounce when the time is right

It has 52 episodes and if you ever watched Nurahyhon no Mago, you’d probably enjoy this or other based supernatural series like Tokyo Majin.

So, i’ve done my good deed for the day

Till later
