Rejoice! For anime season is upon us again and it’s that time when if you’re like me, you’re frantically checking out anime to watch and what new shows can steal your heart. I really like the way this season is looking, i know people are always going ‘Anime is dying’ or ‘It’s become mainstream’ and maybe there are points there, but i’m excited, so below i put out a list of 6 new anime that are a must watch for me.
Note that this is my list hence it’s quite possible that you might not be as enthused, but i’m personally really excited for these shows.
Mahoutsukai no Yome
I love a good Slice of life show and this one looks like it’s right up my alley. The Japanese have a way of portraying romance that i find intriguing and with the Ancient Magician’s Bride, you have what on the face of it looks like a Beauty and the Beast story.
The story follows Hatori Chise who at 16 has lost far more than most. When a mysterious magus appears before Chise, he offers her a chance she couldn’t turn down. This magus who seems closer to demon than human with a weird skeleton head.
It looks like it’ll be a nice romance and the fantasy elements make it even more intriguing to me. It’s definitely a must see for me.
From the creators of Gantz comes Inuyashiki. I didn’t like Gantz and therefore i have fears for this, but the storyline is way more compelling.
Inuyashiki Ichirou is a 58 years old who looks older than his age, he’s disrespected by his family and he’s down on his luck, he even has cancer and is supposedly dying. All this changes when a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichirou stands. He becomes changed with some modifications. He then sets out to be a great hero and all that, unfortunately there’s also someone else who’s gone through a couple of changes and he has no plans to use his newfound powers for good.
For me i like the idea of the protagonist being an older man while the villain is a young guy who’s ruthless. It’s just a different way of telling a story of good and evil. Most young guys in anime are idealistic and wise beyond their years with valor and pride and all that, but for a young villain to have all the depravity that would probably set upon someone if they were teenagers with powers appeals to me.
Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara
Season 3 of the show that has the most outrageous reactions to good food. Need i say more? Perhaps i should. If you haven’t seen this show from the first season, then please do. It follows Soma as he aims to rise to the top of the Japanese culinary world, but apparently he’s not the only good cook in the country (Who’d have thought)
Season 3 has me excited because we get to see the best of the best, by this i mean the 10 seats. We’ve met 3 i believe, but to see the others would be a real treat. Can’t wait to start.
Kekkai Sensen Season 2
Again the sequel to an already existing anime. I can’t wait to see what Leon Watch and Zapp Renfro get up to this time. I don’t know the storyline this season is following, but just to see these guys again is everything!
I remember waiting over 4 months for the finale of last season to come out, but such was the goodwill towards Kekkai Sensen that while this might have killed other shows, Kekkai Sensen was just fine and people loved the finale. Another thing that makes Kekkai Sensen special to me is the music. I LOVE THE MUSIC! Because of Kekkai Sensen i’m now a fan of Bump of Chicken and Unison Square Garden.
Give this a watch, i can’t recommend it enough.
Imouto sae Ireba Ii.
I suspect this will pass under the radar for many people, but for me i find this fascinating. I love a good slice of life show especially when it’s about normal people doing normal things or even if the setting is abnormal, just the fact that there’s charm and heart. Just look at Barakamon!
The story follows the everyday life of Itsuki, a novelist and “modern-day Pygmalion” who works day in and day out to create the ultimate younger sister. He’s surrounded by various other characters: a beautiful genius writer who loves him, his big-sisterly classmate from college, a fellow male writer, a sadistic tax accountant, and his editor. They’re all looked after by Itsuki’s perfect younger step-brother, Chihiro, who has a serious secret. (Source anilist.co)
I feel it will be a heartwarming story and while it might not be for everyone, i think it’ll be one of those ones that will join my list of secret loves.
3-gatsu no Lion 2
Sigh. This anime. I haven’t even seen the first season and i already feel like tearing up. Call me whatever, but part of the reason i feel this way is because it gives off the same vibe as Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (weeping profusely).
Having reached professional status in middle school, Rei Kiriyama is one of the few elite in the world of shogi. Due to this, he faces an enormous amount of pressure, both from the shogi community and his adoptive family. Seeking independence from his tense home life, he moves into an apartment in Tokyo. As a 17-year-old living on his own, Rei tends to take poor care of himself, and his reclusive personality ostracizes him from his peers in school and at the shogi hall. (Source MAL)
He already feels like a Kousei Arima and i LOVE Kousei, like every time i see him i just want to give him a hug. He’s so lovely. Well, i think everyone should see it even if i haven’t started yet, but i’m really psyched for this season.
And there you have it. Please remember this list is subjective as it is my preferences that featured the most (Black Clover looks good and it may surprise me but i’m not losing sleeo over it). Feel free to give your own recommendations in the comment and please share with others.
