Who’s Your Joker?

Hey folks.

The clown prince of crime is easily DC’s best and most famous villain and over the years, we’ve had a bunch of crazies plays the infamous Joker in cartoons, TV and on the big screen.

With Warner Bros. announcing a new stand-alone Joker movie that apparently would feature a new undisclosed actor (although they seem to want Leonardo DiCaprio for some reason), I decided to countdown my top 5 Joker actors so far in all media.

  1. Jared Leto (Suicide Squad)

This movie had many mixed reviews and a lot of that came from Jared’s portrayal of The Joker. Personally, I do not think we’ve seen enough of Jared Leto in this role to form a candid opinion just yet.

This does not mean I do not have my issues with his interpretation but it is a known fact that The Joker thrives best when Batman is on the scene. Until we get a proper Joker vs Batman showdown with Jared Leto’s Joker, I think he has done well enough to earn a spot on this list.

  1. Zack Galifianakis (The Lego Batman Movie)

Surprised? So was I.

This movie is a spoof movie and probably should not be taken seriously, but I loved it.

Zack was a huge part of the reasons I loved this movie and I hate to admit it (because half the time he irritates me in his movies) but he’s a great voice actor for The Joker. It was fun, witty and sinister enough to get me on board with his character.

  1. Jack Nicholson (Batman)

Jack Nicholson was the second Joker to hit the big screen in Batman (1989) and I must say that he isn’t on this list simply out of respect for the past. In many ways, Jack Nicholson set the standard and laid the foundation for future Joker representations. He’s a brilliant actor with his own unique brand of bizarre and I love it.

  1. Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight)

I’m pretty sure you expected his name as soon as you started reading.

Heath Ledger (of blessed memory) is responsible for the impossible standard that surrounds the clown prince of crime on the big screen today. Jared Leto is a brilliant actor but even he hasn’t been able to fill the shoes Heath has left behind.

This is not in an insult to Jared’s work but high praise for the iconic representation of the clown prince of crime by Heath Ledger. I’ve seen the Dark Knight at least once every year since its release and every time I see it, there are new layers to Heath’s Joker that I find.

Heath’s commitment to this role is evident and his delivery is pure class.

  1. Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series)

I love Heath Ledger but he isn’t the first name that comes to mind when I think of The Joker. Mark Hamill is an absolute joy. He made me fall in love with The Joker long before I saw any other representation of the character and he remains my standard for The Joker anywhere.

It’s really rare for a voice actor to bring so much life into a character but Mark Hamill found a way and I adore him for it.

Okay, folks, that’s my list.

Who’s your Joker?

Let me know in the comments.

Till next time.
